Seven apply to fill vacant House District 36 seat
CASPER - At least seven people have formally applied to fill the vacant seat in state House District 36 left by the June 25 resignation of Rep. Liz Gentile, D-Evansville, the Wyoming Democratic Party announced Thursday. The deadline for people to express their interest in the position was 5 p.m. Thursday, June 28.
The applicants are:
Bill Sisco, a Casper businessman
Dan Coey, a Democratic precinct committeeman and wildlife activist
Gretchen Wheeler, a Casper College communications instructor
Mary Hales, the Wyoming Democratic Party state secretary
Mel Hamilton, an education administrator
Penny Miller, union office manager
Zack Gentile, the Evansville police chief
Wyoming Democratic Party spokesman Bill Luckett said the list of applicants would be finalized at the Natrona County Democratic Party's monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the IBEW Hall at 691 English Drive in Casper.
"The seven people on our list are the people who have contacted state party headquarters to express their interest in the position," Luckett said. "Tonight we will consult with Natrona County Democratic Party leadership to see if they have the names of any additional applicants."
Also at the Thursday night meeting, the applicants were invited to introduce themselves to county Democrats and briefly explain why they are interested in filling the vacant House seat.
The next step of the process will be Monday, July 2, when the Democratic precinct committee members of House District 36 are scheduled to meet at the IBEW Hall at 7 p.m. to choose three finalists for the House seat. Then, the Wyoming Democratic Party will submit the list of three names to the Natrona County commissioners, who will have five days to appoint one of them to fill the position.
