Democrats release UPDATED county caucus
information
Uinta and Teton counties get bigger locations; Hot Springs County picks time & location; deadline to register is Feb. 22
CASPER - The Wyoming Democratic Party
released updated information on the March 8
county caucuses, in which any Wyoming voter who
is registered in their county as a Democrat by
Feb. 22 is invited to help choose the party's
presidential nominee.
Among the changes are that the Hot Springs County Democrats have finalized the time and location of their caucus, while Democrats in Uinta and Teton counties have changed the time of theirs in order to accommodate more people. An up-to-date schedule with the times and locations of the events in every county follows at the end of this release. The schedule and other details are also available at the state party Website at www.wyomingdemocrats.com.
Finally, Goshen County Democrats plan to meet later this week to select a time and location for the caucus in that county.
"Based on the extremely close the race for the nomination, and the fact that we have seen record turnout among Democrats in so many states across the country, we are anticipating an unprecedented level of turnout for our caucuses on March 8," said Wyoming Democratic Party Communications Director Bill Luckett.
Luckett said Wyoming's Democratic caucuses should play a larger-than-normal role in determining who will be the party's presidential nominee due to the competetiveness of the race.
"The Obama campaign has sent several staffers to Wyoming, and party officials have also been in communication with the Clinton campaign this week," Luckett said. "They are looking at Wyoming as an important part of their strategies in this nomination process. It is an historic opportunity for Wyoming Democrats to decide who will win the party's presidential nomination."
State Democratic Party Chairman John Millin said people who are 17 years old, and who will turn 18 on or before Nov. 4, are eligible to register with their county clerks and participate in the Democratic county caucuses and conventions.
"Our Delegate Selection Plan allows any Wyoming resident who will be 18 on Election Day to participate in the March 8 caucuses," Chairman Millin said. "This is a great opportunity for young people to get their first taste of involvement in our political process."
Seventeen-year-olds who will be 18 by Election Day can register to vote with their county clerk's office under the provisions of Wyoming Statute 22-3-102(a)(ii).
