Announcement from Rep. Byrd:Rep. James Byrd Announces Reelection Bid
Plans to focus on economic diversification and quality educationCheyenne, WY – Rep. James Byrd of Cheyenne announced today he will seek reelection to Wyoming House District 44. Today he released the following statement:
“I want to continue serving in the Wyoming legislature because I know there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. In my second term I want to focus on two important issues: Wyoming’s economy and quality education.
“There is some great work being done to attract a more diverse array of jobs to Wyoming, such as the tax credit for data centers which passed the legislature this past session. I want to continue efforts to diversify Wyoming’s economy with more initiatives of this nature. Now more than ever we need to focus on long-term economic planning that will move us beyond boom-and-bust cycles.
“In conjunction with economic diversification it is imperative that we adequately prepare our youth for the future. We need to offer our children the tools to succeed by creating a more accessible and effective educational system. This goes from the very basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic, to providing technical training through junior colleges, to supporting research at the University of Wyoming.
“As we move into the campaign season I look forward to speaking to the people of Cheyenne and hearing their issues and concerns. It has been a pleasure to represent House District 44 for the past two years and I hope to have the honor to continue to serve them.”
Rep. Byrd was elected in 2008 to the Wyoming House of Representatives.

Re: Election 2010 Announcements
May 24, 2010 | Ken McCauley | outwest4life@aol.comKyle, so many questions ... it's great to see some enthusiasm! In no particular order I'll try to take a stab at some of them. WyWatch -- this is probably a discussion better suited for a different thread (since this thread is about Election announcements). Not sure why you are nervous -- WyWatch is a conservative organization with well stated objectives. There's nothing new there -- pro-life, family values, designation of marriage as between a man/women. While I can't agree with them, this is nothing new in the conservative/liberal debate. As for why the Democratic Party doesn't have a candidate -- the filing period isn't over -- someone may still decide to seek that position. As for why more Dems don't stand up and speak, admittedly it is something that our party is trying to address. 2008 saw a huge increase in voter turnout -- especially in the younger age groups. It's definitely needed. The problem is keeping that motivation going. The Univ. of Wyoming has a Young Democrats program that is well established and growing. If you haven't already, you should check out the Wyoming Democrats Facebook page. And speaking of younger participation, Andrew Simons filed to run for the Sec. of State seat (the second highest post in the state).

Apr 1, 2010 | Kyle Cameron | k12kyle@yahoo.comI consider myself Independent. However, my parents were Democrats. I am very nervous about a group in Wyoming known as WyWatch. I would like to be aware of why more democrats in Wyoming aren't standing up and speaking up. Why doesn't the Democratic Party have a candidate for Govenor?
