Wyoming Democratic Party Chair Chuck Herz
Criticizes Rep. Lummis' Vote to Repeal the
Affordable Care Act
Moose, WY –
Today, Republicans in the House of
Representatives voted to repeal the Affordable
Care Act. Following that vote, Wyoming
Democratic Party Chair Chuck Herz released the
following statement:
"Today, House
Republicans took a vote that would have two
primary consequences: Americans would be
stripped of patient protections, and health
insurance would become more unaffordable for
families and for our
governments.
"The repeal
legislation would, if actually enacted into
law, enable insurance companies once again to
take away individuals' insurance coverage when
they get sick or deny it to them in the first
place because of "preexisting
conditions". It would take Americans'
health-care decisions out of the hands of their
doctors and put them back into the hands of
insurance companies with an overriding interest
in maximizing profits by minimizing claim
payments. It would let those companies raise
premiums suddenly and without justification.
And it would increase America’s deficit by $1
trillion over the next twenty
years.
"Unfortunately Wyoming’s
lone representative, Cynthia Lummis, was among
those voting for these big steps backward. I
applaud those members of Congress who are
instead fighting to sustain healthcare reform,
protect America's fiscal future, and safeguard
our health care freedoms. Wyoming
Democrats will do the same."
