Cheyenne, WY: Legislation brought by
Democrats during the 61st Legislative Session
focused on solving specific problems that
affect Wyoming citizens. Democrats
emphasized good government and practical
solutions for the people of Wyoming and opposed
legislation that interferes in the private
lives of citizens and serves no public policy
purpose. Democrats supported and proposed
legislation to enhance the economy and bring
jobs to the state, strengthen Wyoming families
with excellent education and equal opportunity,
and protect the state’s natural and cultural
resources.
House Minority Floor
Leader Patrick Goggles explained, “Our time in
Cheyenne during the General Session is limited
and House Democrats focused on legislation to
assist Wyoming citizens and voted on issues
that we believed best served the interest of
all people across the state of
Wyoming"
"Throughout this session,
Democratic legislators have done a remarkable
job of not only being an integral part of
discussions, but also making sure that what is
best for the people of Wyoming is at the
forefront of every conversation. We believe our
time should not be spent on ‘statement
legislation,’ but on solving real problems,"
said House Minority Caucus Chair Joe
Barbuto.
Among proposals brought by
Democrats, was legislation that would assist
counties with energy impacts, extend
unemployment benefits at no cost to taxpayers,
expand workforce training and apprenticeships,
provide reliable funding to local governments
and infrastructure improvement, streamline
government, increase investment in economic
development, improve excellence in our
children’s education, and protect Wyoming
families from domestic violence.
“Across
the board we saw some excellent legislation
from the caucus. There were innovative
proposals like a pilot project for natural gas
vehicles, public health legislation to
outlaw the use of spice, and there were
proposals to protect victims of domestic
violence,” commented Minority Whip Mary Throne,
“I am extremely proud of the quality of work
done by our caucus this session. They
have championed many of the values that we as
Democrats consider core.”
Next week is
the final week of session for the 61st Wyoming
Legislature.
