Today, updates on two major bills. First, House Bill 93, the bill to make the sales tax exemption on food permanent, sailed through the House in Committee of the Whole on Tuesday. There were no amendments offered, and observers report that the discussion on the bill was very short. Second reading is currently scheduled for Wednesday, and if all goes well, it should be up for third and final reading in the House on Thursday, and if it passes, it will head over to the Senate.
A more controversial bill is House Bill 95, the quality child care bill. The House Labor, Health and Social Services Committee took testimony on the bill Monday and began working on the bill Tuesday morning. For now, the panel plans to continue working on the bill for at least one more meeting later this week or early next week. Here is the Casper Star-Tribune's report on the public comment session from Monday.
